Located on land homesteaded in July 1900 by Leland Monroe Driggs, the Pines Motel was originally a two-story log cabin, built at the turn of the century. The cabin was purchased with just over an acre of ground by William Ethelbert Barton in September 1907 for $525. William's daughter Wanona was born in the cabin before 1910. In the 1940's after she married, Wanona and her husband, George Fowers, began adding on to the cabin, and over time they remodeled even the add-ons to give it it's present footprint!
An acre of tree-covered lawn!

The Fowers bought the home in July 1941, and eventually began to rent rooms nightly. They also opened a cafe in the present living room, and called the establishment the Pinecrest Motel.
Charles and Rosemary Frantz purchased the motel in July 1972, calling it the Pines Motel, and ran it as such for nearly twenty years. Their daughter, Nancy (webmaster--that's me!) and her husband, John Nielson, bought it from them in June 1991, and renamed it the Pines Motel * Guest Haus.
So we are a unique, rather quirky little place! If that's not quite your style, please consider staying elsewhere--likely we'll all be happier!
But we do hope you'll discover you like our uniqueness, and will choose to stay with us and enjoy the Pines Motel * Guest Haus!
Your Hosts,
John and Nancy Nielson
